Center of Clinical Anatomy

History

The Centre of Clinical Anatomy at the Anatomical Institute of the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel was founded by Prof. Dr. med. Bernhard Tillmann in 1994. It is considered to be the first institution of its kind in Germany to offer medical training courses and advanced education in close cooperation between anatomists and clinicians.
 

Tasks

The technical progress in medical sciences and health care professions require specialised anatomical knowledge to develope and train innovative therapeutic concepts and surgical procedures. The Centre of Clinical Anatomy endeavours to meet the national and international demands for postgraduate and continuing education by providing the following modules:

  • lectures on clinically oriented anatomy
  • demonstration and hands-on study of predissected anatomical specimens
  • surgical procedures performed on human body donors
  • anatomical specimens for research and development purposes

  • postgraduate education for medical doctors and health care professionals
  • training courses for specific surgical procedures
  • instructional courses for medical companies
  • development and testing of surgical instruments and implants

 

Equipment

  • scientific collection of anatomical specimens
  • predissected anatomical specimens for demonstration
  • airconditioned operating theatre with mobile operating table, lightening and camera
  • laparoscopy and arthroscopy tower
  • mobile x-ray equipment (C-arm)
  • video systems with recording and transmission of surgical procedures
  • conference room with multimedia facilities
  • macroscopic laboratory with digital photography unit
  • dissection halls with mobile operating tables and lightening
  • special embalming techniques for soft tissue surgery
  • trained technical staff
